Flash Fiction #15 – Virtual Reality

I was feeling claustrophobic,

squeezed on all sides

by the machine.

“The VR is magnetic,”

my best friend, Mia said.

“It’s sensing the signals of your nervous system

so that it knows how and when to move for you.”

I enjoyed being an omnipotent wizard

until I felt the sharp pain,

like metal digging into my vertebrae.

I think Mia let out a blood-curdling scream?

I dunno.

I’ve been here for so long

I’m not sure what is real.

Am I dead? Trapped in a game?

Or was the other life the dream?
