Flash Fiction #193 – Abra

Once upon a time, Vanu had a toy stick with twiggy protrusions and a knotted head named Abra. Vanu took Abra everywhere. Abra even slept with his human boy, protecting him from the dark.

Until the American missionaries came. They took pity on “the poor boy who played with sticks.” They gave him fancy toys, and Vanu forgot all about Abra.

Abra became kindling in the Americans’ fire.

Vanu grew up wanting fancier and fancier toys. And now, driving his Tesla, Vanu weeps for the stick he left behind.
