Flash Fiction #196 – The Man Who So Loved the World

Augie didn’t cry at birth.

His mouth hung open in awe.

He’d been a heartbeat

in darkness

and here was the world!

With time,

brilliant colors spilled into the grays.

Reds,

then blues,

then greens and yellows!

Things had all sorts of textures and tastes!

The more he learned, the more wondrous the world became.

He shared all he learned.

His wonder became his children’s and grandchildren’s.

And now,

surrounded by loved ones,

Augie again merges with the dark,

“Goodbye, my love,” he whispers.

“Until we meet again.”
