Flash Fiction #259 – A Princely Gift

When the queen witch decreed her husband would be from her kingdom, men plowed through the forest, ignoring the cries of the lost girl.

Only Tak was willing to help. He found her family, but not their home.

“It burnt down,” said the mother. Tak built them a cabin.

“Without food, we’ll starve this winter,” said the grandmother. Tak gave them the golden goblet meant for the queen.

Late, tired, and poor, Tak came to watch the crowning.

“I’m not just a queen. I am the girl, the woman, and the crone. Only Tak proved worthy.”
