Flash Fiction #32 – The Feud

CONTENT WARNING: Sexual Assault

I thought our wedding would kill the feud between families,

but no one from my side showed up.

Not even Mother.

It stung.

As a kid, when I asked how the feud began,

everyone just shrugged.

I assumed it happened so long ago no one knew.

John’s family attended.

They took me in,

particularly his sweet dad,

so I’m irked when Nana “requests my presence”.

I flip her the bird as she informs me

I am to be removed from her will.

She chews,

mulls something over.

“You know John’s father raped your mother, don’t you?”
