Flash Fiction #33 – An Unbearable Hunger

The caterpillar crawled from leaf to leaf

desperate to satiate the hunger.

No leaf would satisfy.

The more it ate,

the more it grew,

the more it hungered.

Then came the day

that it was so fat it couldn’t move.

It entombed itself, ready for the end.

Life was tedious.

It was ready for it to be over.

The hunger was still there,

so the caterpillar released enzymes,

resolved to end the feeling by digesting itself.

But time transforms all things.

It hatched from the cocoon, changed.

The hunger was still there,

but so were wings.
