It would be untrue to say no one noticed
that their reflections were misbehaving.
Sometimes, from our peripheral view,
we’d notice incongruent movement.
But we always summed it up to a trick of the brain.
Reflections did once exist.
But ten years ago
the mirror people took over all reflective surfaces.
Now they use them like peeping toms use windows.
Every last movement a person makes is scrutinized,
carefully.
Eventually, they will replace us,
but for now they just watch.
