Flash Fiction #76 – Inner Demons

CONTENT WARNING: Suicide

They called my mother mentally ill after she tried to drown me as a child.

She tried to explain that it was the demon inside her that did it.

No one believed her.

Doctors spouting facts have a magic of their own.

My dad locked her up.

She died shortly after. “Suicide.”

No one feels guilt.

She was a good mom, but they sorted her away as crazy.

Another time, we would’ve taken her seriously.

saw the demon. It was real.

If she was crazy, well, then I am, too.

We let the demon win; we stole away her legacy.
