Flash Fiction #79 – Shadow Man

“When I was a kid,

I raced to get to sleep

before the sun went down.

If I wasn’t asleep by midnight at the latest,

this ghost thing would come out,

paralyze me,

suck the fear out of my mouth.

I know I sound crazy, honey.

As a kid, my dad saw Shadow Man, too.

He told me the way to get it to go away was to stay awake,

face it.

I was a teen when it stopped.

You saw the video,

a cradle doesn’t just rock itself.

I think it’s back

and feeding on our daughter.”
