Flash Fiction #198 – The Forest of Gifts

Lost and starving, Gall roamed the forest. “Eat my fruit,” said a tree.

He ate without a thank you.

Now he was thirsty. “Drink my water,” said a stream.

Gall drank without a thank you.

Now tired, he needed shelter. “Rest in me,” said a cave.

He slept without a thank you.

Gall returned with countless men who pillaged until there was no forest at all.

With no food, water, or shelter, all the men lay dying.

“All gifts come with a price, you ungrateful twits,” said the Earth. It gobbled them up and started anew.
