Flash Fiction #273 – Humble Beginnings

Across the street, Karen and May snicker as Aiysha, 8, sings into a paper towel roll.

“Poor dear, thinks she’s going to be a popstar,” says Karen.

At age 10, Aiysha dances outside with an instructor. Karen and May snicker.

“Her parents are now buying into the girl’s delusions.”

When Aiysha, 12, doesn’t place in Bryce City’s talent contest, Karen and May exchange knowing smiles.

Ten years later, Karen’s yard is swarmed with news crews.

Karen smiles into the camera. “We always knew Aiysha was going places.”
