Flash Fiction #312 – Stranded

The ocean waves around the remote island crashed; the light morning breeze flickered the morning campfire.

Lorelie belly-laughed at a joke her daughter and son told.

They all laughed; her kids, husband, and mother.

As dawn broke, Lorelei couldn’t believe her eyes. A ship! She hesitated with the flare gun; her imaginary family slept peacefully.

To be with her actual family, now strangers, she’d have to leave these loyal figments behind.

Lorelei wept as the ship set sail. Her imaginary family watched solemnly, not returning her waves.
