Flash Fiction #63 – Turbulence

Flash Fiction #63 – Turbulence

The insides of the plane rattled,

the seatbelt light flashed.

This is why Lisa traveled by land.

Why had she chosen today to face her fear?

The nine-year-old girl traveling alone

grabs her hand:

“It’s okay, my mom says cars are less safe.”

Oxygen masks drop.

The plane plummets.

Shit and piss from the lavatory

spray vomiting passengers.

Lisa doesn’t notice.

Her focus is the sobbing,

scared nine-year-old girl in her arms.

“It’ll all be all right,”

Lisa promises,

holding her close,

knowing they’re all going to die.
