Flash Fiction #81 – The Old Lady on Tremble Lane

Holly prayed as she drove up the old woman’s dirt road.

Gwen, her 8-year-old, never came home.

None of the neighbors had seen her.

No one left to ask except…

“She’s a witch, mom, she eats children.”

“No, she’s just an old lonely woman.”

Holly parked in the driveway lined with staring dolls.

She leapt from the car the moment she saw Gwen.

The old woman watched from a darkened window as they embraced.

“You’re right, Mom. She doesn’t eat kids. Look what she taught me.”

The dolls floated into the night sky.
