Flash Fiction Special Edition – Earth Watch by Bea Frazier

Upon the road of life I walked

With pencil grasped in hand

And saw the wonder of the world

That grew upon the land

By chance my eyes did rest upon

A deer with in the wood

I gazed in awestruck wonder

Where a thousand feet once stood

With bow and arrow clasped in hand

And quiver by their side

Then felt within my heart and soul

The native Indian pride

In what the Spirit’s hand hath wrought

And knew that this was good

My spirit lifted heaven toward

As I walked up in the wood

The quiet trickle of a stream

Fed by a surging spring

As wind did waft the Autumn leaves

And made the grasses sing

The Earth lay clothed in morning mist

A bird began to sing

Proclaimed the rising of the Sun

To every living thing

I sat upon a fallen tree

And watched this all unfold

Then peace crept forth within my heart

This beauty touched my soul

I thought about my busy life

I hadn’t stopped to see

The beauty of a daybreak

As I sat upon a tree

I promised then my heart of hearts

Next year I would return

And capture once again the peace

When I was blessed to learn

That we should stop more often

So our spirits could renew

And sit upon a fallen tree

Where lays the morning dew
