Flash Fiction #202 – Dinner is Served

Rat gloated after moving into Fox’s home: what a fool, day and night, to leave his door ajar!

Fox cooked decadent feasts, but before he could eat, Rat rang Fox’s bell.

With Fox distracted, Rat gobbled the meals. He’d run back to his hole, giggling, “Got you again, you fool!”

This happened for six days.

On the seventh, as usual, Rat rang the bell, gobbled the meal, but this time he was too fat to fit into his hole.

“You fool,” said Fox, “I let you in to fatten you up! When the bell rings, dinner is always served!”
