“How’s Drew?” Elsa’s cart stops cold. She turns, ready to rip into whoever dares…

but a familiar face smiles at her — sincerely.

“Hi, Patrick’s mom. What university did Drew get into?”

The caved-in skull of her baby boy flashes before Elsa. “All of them.” True.

He’d gone up that mountain to celebrate.

“He chose Harvard. His law professors love Drew — say he’ll change the world!” 
He would have. “He’s — he’s coming home Christmas!”

The woman beams. “We all knew Drew was going places.”

Elsa nods, eyes closing as she smiles.

For a moment, it’s almost true.
